Independent Locksmiths & Security was engaged by Auburn Girls High School to enhance their school security system in response to a security breach.
The Master Key System
After an initial site survey of the school, we recommended upgrading their master key system to the Lockwood Gen6T restricted master key system. This system uses a patent protected T Pin, giving legal protection to the system and offering security with the abilty to control the keys. We designed and built the restricted key system in our workshop in Parramatta. Then our locksmith technicians moved onsite to upgrade the 263 locks across various areas of the school. This was installed in two phases during the school holidays in October 2022 and January 2023. We then supplied 270 restricted keys, using the 12 colour coded key inserts so the keys can easily be assigned to different user groups.
Key Management
The upgrade also included the purchase of key management software, ProMaster Key Manager 8. This software enables the school administrator to manage key allocations. They can also run reports on who has access to which areas of the site. The importance and security significance of fully controlling key issue and returns is often overlooked in many schools. Despite having complex and expensive master key systems, over the years they have had poor record keeping of who has which keys. Promaster Key Manager 8 offers a valuable tool for ensuring that keys are properly managed, and that the school’s security remains intact.
