School Security Installations & Upgrades

Rouse Hill Anglican College goes keyless

Rouse Hill Anglican College

Rouse Hill Anglican College is an independent Christian school located in Rouse Hill, in Sydney’s expanding north-west. It is an Anglican co-educational school for students from Kindergarten to Year Twelve.

The College was using mechanical keys to control access into different buildings and classrooms but if keys were lost that meant the expense of cutting new keys and sometimes having to replace the lock as well. To eliminate the necessity and cost of this, it was decided to upgrade security to a keyless electronic access control solution.

“We looked at several systems that could do the job but after a presentation by local security specialists, Independent Locksmiths and Security, we could see SALTO was a great solution and were happy to go with their recommendation of it” said John Binney, Property Manager.

When we explained to the College how SALTO Australia has an established base of School and College customers to whom they provide security, access control and campus management they wanted to know more.  A demonstration of SALTO’s ability to control access, download audit trail information in real time, delete users remotely and securely, lock and unlock doors remotely and collect lock battery status for maintenance sealed the deal.

We have now installed 120 SALTO XS4 offline electronic handle sets together with a small number of CU50ENSVN (SALTO Virtual Network) controllers in the administration area as well as into classrooms and offices throughout the College.

John Binney concludes “Our new SALTO access control system provides us with good effective security. We particularly like its SVN operating system and the fact that the RFID cards give us multi-application capability for as and when we want to use it.”

Central Coast Grammar upgrade their security to the new Protege GX

Central Coast Grammar School security

This is an independent private school for Kindergarten through to Year 12 students, located on NSW Central Coast across a large 17-hectare campus.

Independent Locksmiths & Security were appointed by David Soede, ICT Manager, to upgrade the schools alarm system and integrate access control.  The new Protege GX was the product chosen. Work took place over the January 2015 school holidays, so a minimum impact would be felt by teaching staff.

"We started using Independent Locksmiths 3 years ago, and their excellent service and expertise means they are now our trusted partner for all our security needs - cameras, boomgates, access control, alarms, locks, etc. I find everyone from Independent Locksmiths to be highly competent and friendly and they are good value for money, and I strongly recommend them. They have completed a few large scale projects for us now and the results are excellent." David Soede

ILSS provides a textbook security solution at Arthur Phillip High School

If there’s a classic application in which networked electronic security solutions leverage existing infrastructure it’s educational facilities including schools and universities. The key element is the significant investment schools make in their educational computer networks and Arthur Phillip High School in Parramatta is no exception to this rule.Arthur Phillip High School security

With more than 1500 students, many with laptops, Arthur Phillip High School (APHS) has:

- its own wireless network

- 1GB fibre LAN supplemented by a laser link connecting its central server room to remote buildings across split campuses on either side of Macquarie Street

APHS’ decision to go with an IP security solution coincided neatly with the NSW Department of Education and Training’s investment of nearly $A1 billion in the Computers in Schools Program. This investment saw powerful new IT infrastructure installed at APHS. Important too, it meant that as the new network was installed, the legacy network could be populated by IP surveillance and access control devices.

We designed an integrated Access Control and CCTV security system, using Milestone, which incorporated Axis and Mobotix cameras.

Security Electronics & Networks magazine did a case study on Arthur Phillip High School.  You can download the article "Textbook solution" here, reviewing the project in great detail.
